Homes
that please the soul
In Communities that fulfill your dreams -
A builder that eases the mind |
Jokes run easily, accented
by quick winks and smiles, around the meeting room table. Quips about
growing up, curfews and new responsibilities flash quickly, creating
a contagion of comfort and ease, making visitors feel as though they
are joining the family for dinner rather than embarking on what has
been touted as one of the most stressful events a person can endure
- that of building a home. The family team of Bay Homes knows that
calm breeds and begets calm, and has managed to undo the oxymoron
of a "worry free home building experience". But it wasn't
just this facet of Bay Homes that made them the HBA of Hilton Head
2003 Builder of the Year. Leaving others paradigms behind, sisters
Kelly Cheek and Jodi Cheek Easton continue to weave together the quality,
originality and innovation that their father, Buddy Cheek, set as
a precedent when he started Bay Homes in 1988. Such energy has allowed
Bay Homes to become forerunners in island homes, having built over
250 homes in less than 20 years. |

"My
success would be their success..."
Buddy continues after quoting Abraham Lincoln,
"The biggest job we have is training our replacements."
Buddy started with home building in Asheville, NC, in 1976, working
with his son John building log homes. After moving to the Sea Islands
in 1985, he and John started Bay Homes in 1988; Jodi and Kelly soon
followed. Jodi now servesd as Vice President of Sales and Marketing,
and Kelly keeps a busy schedule with full days as Vice President of
Operations. Of the six days a week Kelly devotes to her customers,
she averages three days a week on job sites. |

Often,
weekends are spent meeting with customers who are visiting from
out of town. Jodi is currently working with a client in Germany
who is able to view progress on his home via web site updates. With
this home, as with all Bay Homes, "we are actively involved
in the design," Kelly beams. "We focus on custom/design
homes." Kelly defines. Kelly and Jodi agree they prefer custom
homes, "in order to work with the customers."
Not to be pigeonholed, Bay Homes does it all. Buddy is quick to
express his joy in working with spec homes. "It's fun. It's
the best part of the business." If there were to be a category,
Bay Homes would fit into "luxury homebuilder," although
the team would be excited to work with anyone. "We are committed
to doing our best to giving all clients a high quality home, regardless
of their budget," Buddy states with pride. Bay Homes took a
risk by being one of the first companies to provide homes off-island
in what is now the high demand Bluffton area, an investment that
turned out to serve them well.
